Hole in the rear door break in method increase for Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Nissan NV300 and Fiat Talento owners!

History of the problem
We wrote about this problem in July 2018 after launching our external and internal shield set for the Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Nissan NV300 and Fiat Talento owners. But we have seen this hole in the back door break in method becoming increasingly more and more of a problem for owners of these model vans. The extent of the damage to the van is not often as severe as this one, the hole made by the thieves is often smaller although the principal of the break in is the same.
Why the problem all of a sudden?
- Van break ins and tool theft have been reported to be up 50% from 3 years ago and so the odds of having your van broken into are higher now than that they ever were.
- The Ford security software update making the Ford Custom and Ford Transit van that little bit harder to break into? This could mean that some of the thieves that would have specifically targeted Ford Custom and Ford Transit owners for the last 3 years are probably now specifically targeting the now easier to break into van models such as Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Nissan NV300 and Fiat Talento? Of course most other make and model vans have their own different weak points too; so it's not a problem limited to this model van now.
- The information that is available on the internet for thieves to find out break in methods, with YouTube, Facebook groups, Whats app groups and other communication methods out there it isn't hard for thieves to find out how to break into the different model vans. We try and walk the fine line between giving useful information to tradesmen about how to secure their van, but without further educating thieves. Of course putting a hole in the back of the door doesn't make the door open and it's in nobody's interest for me to further elaborate on the problem online. But I can say that holes are being made in the back doors of these vans and people are loosing their tools and livelihoods as a result of it.
So what can I do about it?
- Stay vigilant and on your guard
- Protect your van and your tools as best as you can on the budget that you have for it
- Of course there is the usual advice about removing tools where and when possible
- If you have one of these model vans then our security shield is a minimum security recommendation
- If you have the budget for it then our Platinum or Gold Security packages have been designed to offer a good level of security for the cost of the packages
