Tradesmen take a stand against tool theft - Band of Builders

Van break ins and tool theft seem to have been on the rise since the start of the recession of 2008, but something seemed to happen in 2016 that sent reports of van tool theft through the roof. One person's attention in particular became focussed on this problem and that is 'Band of Builders' Addam Smith, he and the Band of Builders want to make a real change and put a stop to this current epidemic that is crippling many members of the building trade.

The problem seems to be very difficult to tackle, there are many different angles to the problem and to the fight, below are just some things that could help?

• Better security from the van manufacturers
• Tougher sentences for those convicted of breaking into vans
• Police to catch and convict those who break into the vans
• Websites (some very well known) to stop selling cheap tools that can facilitate easy break ins 
• Making it more difficult to sell stolen tools with second hand tool dealers using a register and / or some behaving more responsibly than they are currently
• Tradesmen taking tools out of their van (where and when possible)
• Extra security locks being fitted
• Extra alarm security being fitted (including load area detection)
• Van vault bolted inside the van for the most expensive tools
• Tools being marked with a solution that can identify them as the owner (if they are discovered by police after they have been stolen)
