Sussex Installations YouTube channel hits 1 million views this week!

This week we are celebrating one million views on our YouTube channel! It took me seven and a half years to reach my first half a million views on my YouTube channel, but only ten months to get my second half a million views!

Since I started the Sussex Installations YouTube channel in 2009, I have found that it has been a really useful tool to explain the products and services that we offer here at Sussex Installations. I used to find that people would phone up asking for say a 'Slamlock' for example, but they really would not have any idea what a 'Slamlock' was, they had just been told by someone else that really didn't have much of a clue either that a 'Slamlock' is what they needed. So I would then spend a few minutes to explain to the over the phone what it is and how it functions and then the customer would often say something like "Oh no, that's not what I want" and then they would end up having a deadlock instead!

The more I had to explain these things, the more that I realised that I needed to do something that was not at the time being done in the van security world at all, I needed to channel allot of time, effort and resources into making good quality videos and pictures available so that my customers and potential customers could see what I am suggesting that they spend their money on; which would allow them to make up their own minds if it is suitable for them or not.

So in 2009 I started my YouTube channel @sussexinstallations and I started to make videos to explain the products and services that I offered and also a bit about what goes into the installations that I do; including the care and attention to detail that is important to me. The first video on my channel was about van security and that featured my demonstration VW Transporter T4 van. I watch that video now and I cringe!! It's terrible with my monotone dialog and the the old square 4x3 picture that with the camcorder that is zoomed in close. Of course this was before the days of the iPhone and was quite a production to put the video together and edit it on the computer then.

Since then, I have made many videos and tried lots of different things. Hopefully the videos continue to improve with the experience that I gain in making them and the technology that is available to assist me.

The four main tools that I use for making my YouTube videos now are;

• iPhone 6
• External microphone
• DJI Osmo Mobile gimbal
• iMac 27" Retina with Final Cut Pro editing software

So what does this mean to my business?

YouTube has without any doubt given Sussex Installations a great boost, I have also put massive efforts into taking pictures of as many of the installations we do as possible and put them in our website gallery at sussexinstallations.co.uk. Our website and the content management system that runs it is also something that I have designed and our in house full time developer has built it over the last five years that he has worked for me and we continue to improve and adapt it each month and year that passes by. But the fact that I have managed to grow the business from myself as a one man band, to a small team of 5 since the beginning of the 2008 recession means that something we are doing here is right and we will continue to do it, continue to provide top quality content for our customers and potential customers to quickly and simply understand what we offer and continue to be honest and give good service, high quality workmanship and source the best products that we can to do the job that they need to do.
