A hole made through a Ford Custom door in a break-in attack

How repair shielding can cover attack damage, protect vulnerable mechanisms and reduce the time and cost of returning a working van to service.

Stealth Shields, which are covert security fitted inside your door and not visible from the outside of the van, are often the best line of defence for many model vans

But what do you do if you have had a hole made in your door by a thief who was trying to break into your van?

You are often faced with a choice of taking your van to a bodyshop for a repair, or you can often have a repair shield fitted to your van to cover / repair the damage. Our OG bolt-on repair shields are vehicle-specifically designed and come complete with detailed fitting instructions for DIY installation, or we provide professional mobile installation of our shields in the South East of England, and have workshop facilities for you to bring your van to us to have our professional installer fit the shields and our other security products.

A bodyshop repair could cost hundreds or even thousands of pounds, and you may be left without your vehicle for days or weeks while it is being repaired.

A repair shield might cost as little as £64.99 with free postage, and you might spend around 1 hour to fit the shield yourself, or £142.99 supplied and professionally fitted at our workshop in Eastbourne or in the local area as a mobile installation.

The advantages of a shield repair are usually that it is faster (less downtime), cheaper, and gives additional security over the standard van bodywork to make it less likely to suffer a repeat attack.

If you have damage to your van, then get in touch with us at Sussex Installations and we will be able to let you know if we can help you with an existing dedicated solution, using shield extensions or universal shields, or on the chance that your van model’s damage is already on our development high-priority list, to see if we can bump it up the list to help you out.

What customers say

These extracts are from genuine five-star Google reviews.

★★★★★"Had my van broken into and needed my doors secured asap. Within 24hr had steel plates fitted to the inside and outside my van, worked out cheaper than getting a whole new door plus now it's got added security."
Mark Matthews · Google review, July 2026
★★★★★"Got the side door security plate fitted to the damaged door and although it hides quite a large hole/cut in the door you'd never tell, it looks factory fitted."
Don Johnson · Google review, January 2022
★★★★★"These guys are phenomenal, so helpful. I turned up first thing in the morning after having my van broken into, they were brilliant fixing a fantastic steel shield to the back of my van straight away."
Dan Pain · Google review, May 2021

Common questions

Can a repair shield really replace a bodyshop repair after a break-in?

Often yes. One example on this page shows an owner saving around five thousand pounds by having a repair shield fitted to cover massive thief damage on a brand new Ford Custom, rather than paying for a full bodyshop repair.

If my internal shield stopped the thieves, why does the van still need repairing?

An internal shield can stop a thief reaching the latch or locking mechanism, but the door skin around it is often already cut or damaged during the attempt, as shown in the London Ford Custom case on this page, so a repair shield still needs to be fitted to cover that damage.

Can repair shields be colour-matched to the van?

Yes, we offer van security / repair shields that can be painted to the colour code (most popular variant) of your van.
