0:23 -10 we just literally going to bed um looked out the window thought it might be mine had the text cuz the new um for
0:31 -Transit does send a text out if the alarm goes off uh literally ran down put a pair of you know put some trainers on
0:38 -and ran down and as soon as I got down there they' gone but they' broken into the van you know um Jeff has mentioned
0:47 -about the the security of these Vans not knowing really how secure these side doors are but as you see in a minute
0:54 -when Jeff pans down you'll have a look and see the amount of damage they did to get in all in all I've seen the CCTV footage it took him about 4 minutes 2
1:03 -minutes to get in 2 minutes to Rifle through £2,000 down the pan and uh half of the van door missing uh so I've come
1:12 -down to Sussex installation now to see Jeff has just designed a new panel for this particular Transit so I've driven all the way two well not 200 miles two

1:36 -we do have a design and actually I'd like to well I'm very very proud of the design for the external Shield put a lot of work into it you'll see versions 30

2:09 -wondering whether to go that way or not you yeah yeah well the thing is the new Transit um is very difficult to get any type of spares for obviously when you
2:18 -buy a new van like this is a complete redesign van um you know you got to expect that uh but obviously I didn't
2:25 -expect I might have to have a new side load door put on within two months of of purchasing the van but I've been down the insurance route um the chances are
2:34 -this is going to take probably six 6 to 12 months to get a side door um so it's just not worth me going down the Avenue
2:41 -and even if I had the side door fitted um I'm going to put a plate and and put the extra lock protection on there anyway for future use so really and
2:49 -truthfully it's it's it's at my cost I'm going to have to have the shield and the lock cover put on um and just keep the insurance people out of it really Jeff
2:58 -it's um you know it's simple as that so you know unless they make a hell of a mess and peel the door it's not really worth going down the the route of of

3:23 -not just like a a square lump on the door and it's got a bit of style to it looks like in keeping with the van that's that's what I like to um to do is I don't want it just to a square lump if

3:38 -know they're not just boxes anymore with four wheels so and and obviously Tradesmen you know we we take a lot of pride in our vans and um you know
3:46 -obviously it's devastating when something like this happens but um you know if we can make it look good and and secure you know obviously that's a
3:54 -that's a step forward right okay well leave it with us we're ready we've got the parts we've also got some locks which we're going to put fit to this for
4:01 -additional um layer of security and we're going to get this repaired put our new internal um shield on the side load door and put the external repair shield

4:25 -van um in December I inspected it I took it apart I saw that they've made some improvement to the shielding from the
4:33 -older shaped Transit my gut feeling was this little bit on the edge would not be enough um but I was hoping I didn't want to put it out there I was just waiting
4:41 -to see what happened but in the meantime Sussex Installations we did go out we did buy a Transit custom knowing how important it was suspecting we needed to
4:49 -develop something for the side load door both an internal Shield to give additional security and an external Shield to repair damage when these were
4:57 -inevitably going to break into them so we are here we are ready with that this Shield here that was on the van yeah I
5:05 -guess it was never going to be enough um it does need to be something more so I guess two problems with this Shield really one is this this um this piece
5:14 -here which is sort of guard in the area where they're attacking the latch right by the edge of the door um this piece doesn't actually wrap around the latch
5:22 -so it sort of pointing over the side of the latch but it's sort of susceptible to being bent out like this one has been
5:30 -bent out and it might not even cover the whole thing anyway it's only sort of three quarters of the way up then the other problem is it's probably just not heavy
5:37 -duty enough we've just seen such an increase in aggressive behavior towards breaking into vans that things do need to be better I'm going to put the Ford
5:46 -factory shield on those scales and it's weighing around about
5:53 -half a kilo I'm going to take my replacement
6:01 -this one which we spent months developing for zero the scales I put that on
6:09 -there that's nearly 2 kilos so this is like four times the weight four times the mass of what the Ford factory Shield
6:16 -is the latch sits inside this and it's like wraparound style so it's not like a part here where you're sort of Levering away and poking the screwdriver between
6:25 -where the shield finishes and um where the door starts it's actually wrapping around encasing the latch inside it and
6:34 -we'll also go top and we also go bottom just to make it as secure as possible and try to sort of like prevent attacks
6:42 -from the top attacks from the bottom in the most vulnerable area this is actually triple layered up so it's a real heavy bit of Kit it is a really
6:49 -good Shield the development of these internal and external Shields was absolutely mad it quite literally made my head spin the amount of work that I
6:57 -put into this I truly believe although there's no way of stopping anyone getting into your van the amount of pounds that you would spend on this
7:04 -Shield versus The increase in security as a result of having it is just absolutely well worthwhile I mean if this isn't enough to keep a thief out of your van
7:13 -be enough to knock them out with not I'm suggesting you go knocking out thieves with shields this should be boled in your van not knocking out
7:20 -thieves um and not knocking out thieves with anything because that would get you in trouble but it's a heavy bit of Kit

8:25 -be a lot more secure uh now than what it was before and it looks ni nice it's repaired it's up and running customer is back out on the road so it's not in a
8:33 -body shop waiting for months or per long period of time waiting for parts to come in and get repaired so you're back on the road ready to go back on the road

12:05 -so a quick update on this there is a bit of a frustrating point on this unfortunately the latch which was damaged during the break in with the
12:12 -part that holds the door closed is actually broken it was just about working for a few days or weeks after the attack but unfortunately now it has
12:21 -stopped working and very frustrating thing is to actually purchase a new one of these from Ford for that model van it's just not available it's it's a
12:29 -nightmare we got customers all over the country getting broken into with these Ford having to buy new latches which is very frustrating anyway if they got the
12:36 -older van they can be like £450 for a latch if they got the uh van up until sort of 2023 that model one is about
12:44 -£250 plus that this one here but unfortunately this brand new model is just not available and this is a problem and like you didn't need a crystal ball
12:52 -to see this coming when I inspected the um demonstration van this new custom in December I tried to order one of them latches in December and I was told it
13:01 -was unavailable so I knew that from that video and I knew there were going to be Tradesmen that going to be out of action because they don't have a latch they
13:08 -can't buy it I tried to order a latch from Ford in December 2023 and I've still not got it yet I I couldn't even order it at that time because there was
13:16 -no part number on their system I now have got um some on order but there's just absolutely no delivery date like
13:23 -there's no expected date we just don't know when they're coming so unfortunately for vehicles like Nick they could be off the the road in the meantime so this latch here which is
13:32 -from like a 2022 shaped custom it's almost the same like it will bolt in the door but it doesn't have the pin switch
13:39 -to tell the van whether the door is open or closed so it isn't really compatible you could sort of just about make it compatible disconnect the the side door
13:47 -switch Loop it off and keep your van going temporarily but very frustrating so on a side note please Ford if you can
13:55 -get these latches available so Tradesmen once they get them broken into get their Vans back on the road so yeah bit bit frustrating if you're looking for
