Jeff Scott’s retrospective context — 2026

This is a good example of why the hidden internal Stealth Shields with wrap around features can be more important than an external shield or deadlocks. The outside of the van can still be attacked and damaged, but if the latch remains protected the theft may be prevented.

Visible security can deter some attacks, but concealed protection also has a strategic advantage because the thief may not know it is present until the attack has already failed. That is why I eventually made the internal and external ranges independently available rather than forcing every customer into one combined set.

Visible security can deter some attacks, but concealed protection also has a strategic advantage because the thief may not know it is present until the attack has already failed.

The repair stage matters too. A tradesperson may have avoided losing the tools but still be left with a badly damaged working vehicle. Our external repair shields developed as a way to cover and stabilise attack damage while adding another layer around the vulnerable area.

Original description

Our internal latch shield stops determined thieves from breaking into this tradesman's Ford Custom Van! Great news that it stopped the thieves from getting in, but there is allot of damage that has been caused to the van. Can we fix the damage and get this tradesman back on the road?

Chapters
00:00 Intro and problem showing damage to van caused by thieves
00:30 The internal shield stopped the thieves getting into the van
00:45 It's a London van and possibly lucky to not have a break in for 5 years
01:09 Two lots of good news they didn't get the tools and the damage is mostly limited to the door
01:50 We have a plan on how we can repair the damage to the bodywork around the deadlock
02:20 The damage lower down on the door will need our large size repair shield
02:32 We will fit some extra shields for barn doors of the van too
02:56 Straightening the bodywork out
03:08 Cutting away the damaged bodywork caused by thieves
03:59 Applying masking tape to the area where we will fit the shields
04:17 Measuring and marking where to fit the shield onto the door
04:21 Using the Sussex Installations gasket as a template where to drill the holes for the studs of the shield
04:29 We hold up the shield against the marked positions to check that we will drill the holes in the correct place
04:36 Drilling 3.5mm pilot holes for the shield studs
04:49 Opening up holes for shield studs to 9mm
04:56 Deburring holes using step drill
05:01 Checking stud holes are in the correct position so that shields will align correctly
05:07 removing masking tape
05:10 Drilling access holes inside the van for the deadlock escutcheon shield
05:20 Thorough clean down of all swarf and metal debris
05:27 Applying Wax oil anti-rust treatment to bare metal
05:32 Sticking gaskets to shield
05:42 Fitting a new deadlock barrel and hook lockcase after old one was damaged by thieves
05:55 A handy trick to fit the nuts to the escutcheon shield through the access holes
06:06 Tightening up the nuts
06:25 Fitting the large latch shield to cover the damage made by thieves
06:57 Are we ready for the reveal of our work
07:19 We reveal the finished job with the van now repaired from the damage caused by thieves
07:42 A recap on how the van was damaged by thieves, that our internal latch shield prevented the thieves from getting into the van and how we repaired the damage and added extra security to the van

-----------------------
This customer had two lots of damage caused by thieves attacking his side load door of his Ford Custom van. We had to work hard to cover the damage near to the deadlock using our FOR3-NSL-EXT-901 deadlock escutcheon shield and fitting our large size latch shield FOR3-NSL-EXT-002 to cover the damage where they attacked factory latch / central locking system lower down on the door. We fitted a new deadlock barrel keyed alike to the match the deadlock already fitted on the rear door and we replaced the lock case for a new hooklock.

Common questions

Did the internal shield actually stop the thieves getting into this Ford Custom?

Yes — despite heavy damage at the top and bottom of the side load door where thieves attacked the deadlock and the latch, the internal shield held and they did not get into the van or steal the customer's tools.

How was the damage to this van's door repaired?

Jeff fitted the FOR3-NSL-EXT-901 deadlock escutcheon shield around the damaged deadlock area, bent the bodywork back in slightly to reduce the dent, and fitted the large size FOR3-NSL-EXT-002 latch shield lower down to cover the bigger cut, along with a new deadlock barrel and hook lock case.

Why does Jeff say it's good news the damage was "mostly limited to the door"?

Because there was no levering damage down the door pillar, meaning the repair could be done with bolt-on repair shields rather than needing a body shop to replace or repaint structural panels, keeping the van off the road for a much shorter time.

0:00 -Hi I'm Jeff from Sussex installations. Look at the damage on this.
0:04 -Absolute mess of this full custom here around the latch mechanism. Thieves have really had a go at this. They really wanted to get into this van. They've
0:12 -hacked away at this. They've actually attacked the deadlock here as well. Made damage up the top of the door. So, damage at the top of the door, damage at
0:19 -the bottom of the door. The good news is they actually didn't get in. Please do give us a like for the video and please don't forget to subscribe to this
0:26 -channel. This way we can keep you up to date with the latest in van security and the side load door shield stops them getting in the van. So that has done its
0:34 -job. It's good news that they didn't get in the van. They didn't steal the customer's tools and possessions, but it is bad news that the customers got
0:41 -damage from these uh thieves what they've left on the van. I mean, it's it's a London van, and I know we shouldn't be saying this, but if he's
0:49 -gone sort of like 5 years or whatever since doing the locks without an attack, I guess it's been good that those locks
0:56 -have deterred uh fees for those 5 years, but unfortunately, he has come up against it now where they have had a go at his van. They've had a significant go
1:04 -at his van and they've made damage to the door here, to the door here. Two lots of good news to take away from this. Although it's a massive headache,
1:13 -really annoying having someone attack your van, they didn't get in, they didn't get his tools. And in terms of us getting this van back on the road, well,
1:21 -the damage is mostly limited to the door. It's not like all down the pillar of this van. There's not been levering with crowbars trying to get the door open inside the door.
1:32 -It's okay here. So, there's no real damage there. The damage really is
1:39 -located to sort of this area here and this area here. And the good news for that is we have repair we have repair shields for this van for those things.
1:50 -This is an excussion repair. And what we're going to do with this is we'll fit that up around the deadlock. We'll change the deadlock barrel and we will
1:57 -fit this here to cover off most of that damage. It does go a long way over there. So this this might still show, but what we'll try and do is we'll try
2:04 -and bend this body work up a little bit to try and take to try and reduce this dent, bring it in a little bit just so it can sort of hide as much of that
2:12 -damage as possible. In terms of where they've gone at this lower down on the door, it's quite it's quite a lot of damage. They they've really kind of cut
2:20 -a big hole in that door. We have a standard size shield, but I think in the case of this van, we're going to have to fit our large shield to it. This is our
2:29 -large size shield and this will cover up that damage nicely. What we're going to do is we're going to fit this internal barn door shield. We're going to fit our
2:38 -external barn door shield and we're also going to fit an excussion shield on the barn door also up there. So stay tuned.
2:49 -Customer's waiting. He's got to get back to work. So we're going to get this van on the road. Get this customer back in business.

6:57 -Danny, are we ready? I say, are we ready? I think Danny was a little bit too ready cuz it looks like he's been doing the reveal on the back door
7:04 -without me. Look, look at this. What's going on here, Danny? Told you. You have to be quick. Have to be quick around.
7:10 -Okay, we're ready for this reveal anyway. What's left? You did the top. I did the bottom. Right. Okay. Two man. Twoman job. This is ready.
7:18 -Ready? D.
7:22 -Oh. Oh, nice.
7:28 -Okay, here we go. So, I think you'll agree it's looking a lot better than it was. That big horrible hole at the top
7:36 -round where the deadlock was. The big horrible hole down there where the latch is. So, the customer did already have our internal shield on his latch, which
7:44 -is the thing that stopped his feet from getting in the van. That one. And I can see they had started drilling into it.
7:49 -We actually have a double layered one now. So I did give him an upgrade. I got Danny to do him a free upgrade on that
7:55 -to our new double layered one. We fitted our external large size repair shield.
8:01 -We have one that's smaller than this as well, but the damage on this was quite significant. It went down quite low in the door. So we fitted the large size.
8:07 -We also fitted our uh Excion repair shield. So it's it cleaned up a lot of that damage. you. We still can see a
8:16 -little bit of distortion around the left and around the bottom there where the damage was quite widespread on the door, but you barely notice it in all honesty.
8:24 -So, it it's it's looking pretty good. We did also change the deadlock barrel and deadlock lock case cuz those were both
8:31 -damaged at the same time. fitted our excretion shield on the barn door deadlock and our external and internal
8:41 -barn door shield for the actual latch where people go for like a similar type of attack from the side load door but through the barn door. So this vehicle's
8:48 -ready to go back on the road. I'm sure this customer is keen to get himself back to London, get him back in business, get him back doing some jobs. Please do give us a like for the video.
