Double van Deadlocks? 2 locks on the same door for extra security?

Typically our approach is to recommend a multi-strategy security package and one of those strategies is to secure the manufacturer's weak point on the existing factory fitted security. The solution we offer to secure the manufacturer's weak point varies from one model van to another, as they all have different weak points.

Problem! with some make / model vans it is just NOT possible / practical to secure the manufacturer's weak point, due to the design of the vehicle locking system or the design of the manufacturer's central locking. Some vans are designed so badly from a security point of view that they are just too far gone when it comes to trying to implement our strategy of securing the manufacturer's weak point! Whilst we may have a security product to address one type of break in method, there is another type of break in method used too. Maybe we have a different security product to secure the second weak point, but then there is another break in method that is used to compromise the manufacturer's locking system somewhere else. Maybe you can think of it like trying to stop a river from flooding, you can build up a bank in one place, but then it will flood a few metres away, then if you build up that bank there, if will flood a few more metres away, you could be spending lots of money and not really be much better off! At this point the value for your money that we are trying to give you to secure these weak points is not as good as it would be if your model van just has one weak point that is easily addressed.

So if we can't offer you a security package to address the manufacturer's weak point of you model van, then there is no Gold or Platinum Package that we can offer you. But what we can offer you is to double up on your deadlocks with you having more than one deadlock fitted to the same door of your van! We often have more than one position for a deadlock for current model vans, it varies from one van model to another, but we have a combination of low, mid or high level positions for many current model vans. The original intention for the different positions was if the van had a window in the load area or not (If it did have window in the load area, then it would probably need a low position deadlock, but if there was no windows in the load area then it could have a high position deadlock).

We have recently seen more and more aggressive attacks on vans, this has resulted in both us and the van lock manufacturer's having to change our advice and suggestions and products used. We at Sussex Installations have started to suggest and fit more than one deadlock on a load area door,  if we can't offer a Gold or Platinum Package for a customers model van (and we might also suggest it in some cases where we can offer a Gold or Platinum Package, but the vehicle owner is looking for that little bit extra in terms of security). The top and bottom locks would typically use the same key, as well as any other locks that we fit on the van, as most van owners like all the locks to be keyed alike for convenience.
