This is an electrical modification service that we can offer to stop the Ford Transit van driver's door lock from unlocking the load area of your Ford Transit 2014 onwards van.
If you have a remote control to lock and unlock your van then you really do not need to use the physical key in the lock on driver's door, but the lock being there is a massive security vulnerability to both the front of your van and the load area where you keep your tools and cargo!!
We suggest that you have one of our Replocks fitted regardless if you have this modification done or not, but this electrical modification is something extra that will mean that if someone breaks in through your Ford lock or by tampering with the loom that goes into the driver's door (or even if in the future that manage to pick the replacement lock that we offer) then they will only gain access to the cab area of your van as our modification will mean that the driver's door barrel is no longer capable of activating the vehicle's central locking system.
Our electrical modification functionality may vary depending on what body control module is fitted to your van and which version software has been programmed by Ford; in some cases it may be necessary for us to also disable the unlock buttons on your door panels too. This modification is only available for customers who have work carried out by Sussex Installations and is not something that is available for parts only customers. We do not provide information on how you can carry this modification out yourself or support any 3rd party to carry it out. Do I need the electronic mod?
Please follow the steps below to determine whether your vehicle already has the modification as standard.
Ford Transit (2014 - 2018)
Test to check if the electronic upgrade is needed:
- Lock the van with the remote locking from the key fob & leave it for 2 minutes
- Get the ignition key and pop open the bonnet via the grill (this will then activate the alarm if you have one)
- Without turning the alarm off, go to the drivers door & now unlock the drivers door with the key 3 or 4 times, now open the door
- Now check that the load area is still locked
- Go back to the drivers door and press the lock and unlock button multiple times
- Now check that the load area is still locked
If your load area should stays locked you do not require this modification
Ford Transit (2018 - Onwards)
Test to check if the electronic upgrade is needed:
- Lock the van with the remote locking from the key fob & leave it for 2 minutes
- Unlock the drivers door with the ignition key 3 or 4 times and open the door
- Now check that the load area is still locked
- Go back to the drivers door and press the lock and unlock button multiple times
- Now check that the load area is still locked
If your load area should stays locked you do not require this modification
