I was frustrated for many years at the product range available from van security manufacturers. Frustrations included: poor instructions; security products that were obsolete and not relevant to the way that thieves are breaking into vans today; poor quality products that had clearly been manufactured by people who didn't care about them; and products where there had been a breakdown between the technical people designing them and the managers or directors in charge of the business, leading to dysfunctional products.

After years of fitting other manufacturers' products, Jeff was repeatedly let down by poor instructions, products disconnected from how thieves were actually breaking into vans, and a disconnect between the technical people designing products and the managers running the business. Rather than keep working around those problems, he invested in a building, machinery and staff to design and manufacture Sussex Installations' own products in-house.
Every stage happens at Sussex Installations' own facility in Sussex, design, manufacturing and fitting instructions, with no subcontracting of the work to anyone else, which is why Jeff describes it as done "end to end."
External shields are typically 2 mm thick stainless steel, used to cover and reinforce a hole already drilled or cut into a van door, and they're made in a regular size, a large size, and in some cases an extra-large (XL) size, depending on how much damage needs covering.
Most internal shields are built from a doubled-up 2 mm layer, giving 4 mm of stainless steel in the most vulnerable places around the latch; only a small minority are single-layer 2 mm throughout, and a few triple-layer shields reach 6 mm at their most vulnerable point. Fitting an internal shield together with an external shield adds further protection on top of that.
