Jeff Scott's retrospective context — 2026

This was an important video for us. It's the first time I set out our Gold Security Package properly: bundling together the different products needed to actually address the Ford Transit's known weak point of the era, the standard factory barrel that the Ford Tibbe lock-picking key could open in seconds, together with deadlocks for a genuine extra layer, rather than selling any one product on its own and hoping it was enough. The barrel swap fixes the specific vulnerability; the deadlock adds a second, independent layer that still holds the van even if someone does get past the factory lock. Bundled together like this, at the time, it represented a significant step up in security for genuinely good value compared with buying each piece separately.

The deadlock will hold, it'll be secure.

This is also one of the earliest videos where I showed our hook-style deadlock, what we came to call the hooklock, on camera and explained why the hook actually matters. A standard bolt just blocks the door from opening. A hook bolt does that too, but it also grabs hold of a bracket fitted on the inside of the van, so if someone does get the door open a few millimetres and comes at it with a screwdriver or a crowbar to try and spread the door away from the frame, the hook is pulling from the other side and will give greater resistance than a standard deadlock for that type of attack. That anti-spreading behaviour became a core part of how we've added hooklock where possible, instead of regular deadlocks and this video is really where that thinking first got explained properly to customers.

Original description

This is our security package for the Ford Transit 2006-2014, we have used our specialist knowledge to give you a Gold Security Package to protect your vans and tools.

Subscribe to both our YouTube channel and website newsletter to keep up to date with van security products and advice; as things are constantly changing as we respond and adapt to new attack techniques as we see them.

Note: Whilst we take great care in selecting products and techniques that we believe are effective to increase your van's security, we can never guarantee that any van is safe from a break in, please see our website for full terms and conditions.

Common questions

What was included in the original Ford Transit Gold Security Package?

A replacement high-security barrel for the vulnerable factory lock, T-Series deadlocks on the load area with the side load door having a hook bolt and TX security plate, and internal brackets fitted on the inside of the side load door.

Why fit both a new barrel and a deadlock rather than just one?

Replacing the barrel closes the specific lock-picking vulnerability, but the deadlock adds a genuinely independent second layer, so the van is still held secure even if someone manages to get past the door's main locking mechanism.

What makes a hook-style deadlock different from a standard bolt?

A standard bolt only blocks the door from opening. A hook bolt also grabs hold of a bracket fitted inside the van, so if someone forces the door open a few millimetres and tries to pry or spread it further with a tool, the hook resists being pulled apart from the body of the van more than a standard deadlock.

0:01 -hi I'm Jeff Scott from Sussex Installations and I'll show you what we've been doing today, this is our Ford Transit Gold Security package which we've been fitting here at our workshop
0:08 -in Eastbourne, first of all we've changed this barrel, if you're familiar with the Ford Transit standard factory barrel which is this one, this Transit derivative has
0:18 -been plagued, and another four drivers, by people going out with these Ford Tibbe lock-picking keys, picking this barrel, potentially unlocking the load area and
0:26 -stealing tools from the van, particularly if they combine that with a a coded dongle and actually code in a new key to the van, because the same picking method
0:34 -works for the ignition, they can actually steal the van and drive it away, what we've done is we've replace this vulnerable um barrel and we fitted out a
0:41 -high security barrel which is not um susceptible to being picked by this Ford Tibbe lock picking key, this barrel you
0:48 -probably don't even use, the barrel, but if you put it into the um, it means that you can unlock your van in the case that your remote control doesn't work, so
0:57 -all you need this key for really is emergencies, in case this remote control fails or your van battery goes flat and then you want to access that barrel, but you do want to address the security
1:05 -vulnerability of that barrel um if you've got the standard factory one fitted to your van, so that's part of our Gold Security package, next thing we've done on this van is we fitted deadlocks
1:14 -to the load area of the van, I'll show you the deadlocks, this is our T-Series key, it's a high security key with the dimple uh drilled into the flat side of
1:23 -the key, and what this means is if you, if you want extra security on your van overnight or high risk situation,
1:30 -you can turn the key over once and then the van is locked by the deadlock as well, in addition to your remote control, and that means that if somebody does get
1:38 -past your existing um mechanism, your existing locking, by unlocking the van, the door will just open a few millimetres, if I unlock it from the remote
1:46 -control, we had to demonstrate that, it will just open a couple of millimeters and that's it, the deadlock
1:53 -will hold, it'll be secure, similar thing with a side load door, side load door again is our T-Series lock, and I'll show you the
2:01 -difference with this one, if I open up the door, this is with a deadlock off, you can just use the van as you always use it, just as normal, what we fitted here is
2:10 -we fitted our extra TX security plate on the outside, we've also used our hook bolt, so this bolt here actually throws and it's got a hook on it, so it not only
2:18 -does it have a bolt stopping the the van from opening, but it actually grabs hold of the bracket here on the inside of the van which we've, which we fitted, and the
2:27 -purpose of hooking, that means that if somebody does get past your existing locking, they might be tempted to try and
2:35 -open the door past the deadlock, so if they get past the existing lock in the door, they get the door open a few millimeters, if
2:43 -they're tempted to try and go in there with a screwdriver or with a crowbar, it means that that that hook bolt is going to be pulling on the other side, so it's not going to be separated easily from
2:52 -that, from the body of the van, so that's another, another useful thing which we've done to help secure this van, and that's part of our Gold Security package too,
3:00 -in addition to that we also fit some brackets just on the inside of the side load door, so this is a bracket here, one
3:08 -at the bottom, one at the top, and these are our internal brackets, and they actually just go behind the actual rubber and the metal seam of this
3:17 -side load door B-pillar, and that means that we're making the door more secure if someone's actually trying to just pry the door open on the front edge of the
3:26 -van, so at the moment the front edge of your Transit you've just got the standard little lockers, and actually they only open up at like a, they're at
3:33 -like a 45 degree angle, so it's just the case of trying to make it um as secure as we can, this is our Ford Transit Gold Security
3:41 -package, deadlocks, internal side load brackets, changing that vulnerable uh barrel on the driver's door, fitting the hook bolt, fitting the TX plate on the
3:49 -side of that um, on the trailing edge of that side load door too, so if you'd like to find more information go to the website, it's
