The Ultimate lock shown here made two points that still matter to me. First, it bolted through both doors rather than sitting on one door alone, so it kept the doors held together against the kind of forceful bending or levering attack that a single-door lock cannot resist on its own. Second, it demonstrated that the same physical lock could be used as either a deadlock or a slamlock, depending purely on how the key was used, rather than needing two different products.
You do run the risk of actually leaving your keys inside the vehicle and then closing the door, which could be a bit of a pain.
That honesty about the trade-off is the part I still stand by: used purely as a slamlock, it is genuinely convenient for a forgetful user, but it carries a real risk of locking your own keys inside. Used as a deadlock, you get overnight security without that risk, at the cost of having to remember to turn the key yourself. The design shown in this video has since been superseded — I have kept the video online and clearly labelled as the old design rather than deleting it, because I think it is more useful to van owners to be transparent about how a product has evolved than to quietly erase the earlier version.
A demonstration of the Ultimate Van Lock from Jeff Scott of Sussex Installation Team, the Ultimate Van Locks can be ordered as Deadlocks or Slamlocks depending on your needs.
There has been a design change since this video was created, please see our website and newer YouTube videos to see the new design.

Subscribe to both our YouTube channel and website newsletter to keep up to date with van security products and advice; as things are constantly changing as we respond and adapt to new attack techniques as we see them.
Note: Whilst we take great care in selecting products and techniques that we believe are effective to increase your van's security, we can never guarantee that any van is safe from a break in, please see our website for full terms and conditions.

Yes. The same physical lock can operate as either, depending purely on how the key is used — locking automatically when the door closes for slamlock use, or requiring the key to lock it for deadlock use.
I would rather be transparent about how a product has evolved than quietly remove the earlier version. The video is clearly labelled as the old design so viewers know to check the current website and newer videos for the current version.
