My original strategy was to sell an internal and external shield as one branded Sussex Installations set. The logo on the outside was intended to tell both tradespeople and thieves that this was not simply a visible cover plate; there was also protection hidden around the latch inside the door.
I later reconsidered that strategy. Other businesses introduced external-only shields that looked similar in online listings, making our complete system appear more expensive even though it was not a like-for-like comparison. We also found that many customers only wanted the visible external shield, even though the internal component was typically the more important security product. Other customers wanted hidden security only, which is often a very intelligent strategy.
The range therefore evolved into compatible but independent products: external OG Shields and internal Stealth Shields. Customers can choose either one or both. From a security perspective this also creates better independent layers. Defeating the external shield should not automatically carry the internal protection away with it.

NEW AUGUST 2010 - This shield set is now our V2.0 version with 8 x studs on the shield! (although this video shows our 4 x stud V1 version) - see our website for full details.
If you are the owner of one (or more) of the 2014 onwards shape Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic and Nissan NV300 / Fiat Talento model vans? then your biggest and most likely break in method will be through the rear door of your van by thieves putting a hole in your door to attack the latch mechanism.
This problem is two fold;
1) The cost of tools stolen / down time if the break in is successful
2) The repair to the hole left in your door from the attack
We have been selling and recommending the internal shields as part of our security packages since 2016. We have found them to be very effective in terms of security, but we have found that they don't prevent the hole in the door; because thieves do not know the shield is fitted until after they have made the hole. By having this 'Sussex Installations' Trade mark branded outer shield visible on your van door, thieves will know that they are up against a comprehensive professionally designed internal and external shield set (that is a bolt through the body product) and not just a piece of metal stuck onto the surface of the van door.
This product can be used for different purposes;
Increasing security on vans that have not yet been broken into
Acting as a visible deterrent against a break in (Sussex Installations - Trade mark branded)
Acting as a repair product for typical break ins
This high quality stainless steel shield kit designed and manufacturers by 'Sussex Installations' combines the best of bespoke internal shielding with external shielding; along with a fitting kit that includes a gasket, nuts, grommets and fitting instructions.
This shield set has been designed by us; to be an effective security product that can be fitted either professionally or by a competent DIY van owner.
There are fitting instructions available as pictures with text assist those who want a quick reference for fitting and video format for those who want to be walked through the whole process in depth.
If you have a Vivaro 2014 (which typically has the factory remote deadlocking), then you will want to utilise this security feature. There are two main things that you can do to utilise the standard deadlocking;
Double press your remote control each time you lock your van (unless you have someone in your van as it is not safe for them if you double lock your van)
Make it much harder for thieves to bypass the manufacturer's deadlocking by protecting the latch mechanism inside the door with additional shields as pictured above

Historical context: This video records the advice, products and attack methods relevant when it was published. Current recommendations may have changed as vehicles, products and criminal methods evolved.
Because the internal shield alone is very effective, but it's invisible, so thieves don't find out it's there until after they've already made a hole in the door. Having our Sussex Installations trademark branded outer shield visible on the van tells thieves upfront that they're up against a proper bolt-through internal and external shield set, not just a bit of metal stuck on the surface, and it also acts as a repair product if the hole is already there.
No. As I say in the video, it's not a slam lock and not a deadlock, it's a shield. You use the van exactly as before, and the shield's job is simply to protect the manufacturer's weak point around the latch so thieves can't push a hole through that thin metal to get in.
A few reasons. Other businesses started selling external-only shields that looked similar in online listings, which made our complete set look more expensive even though it wasn't a fair like-for-like comparison. I also found some customers only wanted the visible external shield, even though the internal one is typically the more important security product, while others wanted hidden security only. Splitting the range into independent external OG Shields and internal Stealth Shields lets customers choose either or both, and it also means defeating the external shield doesn't automatically take the internal protection with it.
