Jeff Scott's retrospective context — 2026

This Mercedes Vito had been broken into by someone pushing an object in above or below the door handle — exactly the handle-area attack that made Armaplate genuinely useful on Vito models before 2015. Rather than sending the van for an expensive body-shop paint repair, we fitted Armaplate directly over the damage, repairing and reinforcing the same weak point in one job.

This is the same handle-area attack and the same product described in the wider Armaplate story: a familiar, useful product for its time, fitted alongside deadlocks on every door for overnight security. It is a good example of repair and reinforcement working together rather than as separate jobs.

Common questions

Why did Jeff use Armaplate to repair this Mercedes Vito rather than send it to a bodyshop?

Fitting Armaplate directly over the damaged area repaired and reinforced the same weak point in one job, avoiding an expensive bodyshop paint repair and the insurance excess the customer would otherwise have had to pay.

How had this Vito actually been broken into?

Someone had pushed an object in either just above or just below the door handle — a handle-area attack Jeff says was common on Vito vans of this type before 2015.

What else was fitted to this van besides the Armaplate repair?

Deadlocks were fitted to every door in addition to the Armaplate around the handle, so the customer had both the repaired, reinforced handle area and independent overnight security on all doors.
