0:17 -with a security specialist and our um point on this is not about loading pallets and pipes into the van although all that stuff would be interesting as
0:25 -well I want to find out how secure this is going to be for you guys putting your tools inside side or using this van so so what we're going to do now we're
0:33 -going to take a look at it and just see from a security point of view have Ford done their job have they put as much sort of um effort in as they can like
0:41 -prior to the launch and then of course we'll see how things change as time goes by you know as thieves start to attack these Vans what they come up with how
0:49 -they make attacks and how creative they are and see what we can do um to react in real time to give you guys like repair Shields when they do make holes

1:31 -first off you might be asking yourself do you actually have the new model van you've just bought a new van or you're just buying a new um full customer dealership it can be tough to know
1:39 -sometimes well is it the new one or is it the old one of course they're brand new anyway this one some differences which we've noticed is the brake light
1:47 -is not on the door it's not part of the the rear doors on this new 2023 let put it 2024 onwards model van uh just to be
1:55 -clear the brake light the top middle of the do's brake light does not come open with the door it stays with the van
2:04 -where as the previous model van the brake light was in the actual rear door so that's one way of telling if you've got the new 2024 onwards model van or
2:13 -not so inside the cab another way of telling do you have the new model custom full custom van cockpit look at all this
2:20 -dashboard here it looks very different huge screen there okay so this van does have keyless entry and what that means
2:27 -is you don't actually need to press the lock button or the unlock button you can just grab the Handle by having the key like simply on your person like in your
2:35 -pocket or in your hand or present with you if you grab the handle it just unlocks itself so that's really great from a convenience point of view and
2:44 -then because you don't need to get your key and press the button and then you can just lock it just by touching the handle or just walk away and it will lock but from a security point of view
2:51 -it's an absolute nightmare you got people that scanning houses for like keys that are near your bed or you know inside the house where they're going to
2:58 -try and perhaps unlock your van and raid your tools and just have it unlock itself during the night time so so if you've got a van with a keyless entry you probably need to be taking
3:07 -precautions like carrying a faraday wallet around with you and keeping your key inside it you're stopping the keyless entry or the automatic unlocking
3:15 -working by keeping it inside that metal pocket so now it doesn't unlock but it's just much more simpler you can turn it
3:23 -off on this model van it's maybe it's good for some people that it's got that keyless entry and some people going to really enjoy that like uh feature from a
3:31 -convenience point of view for but for you Tradesmen that are keeping like things inside your van tools and things you don't want to messing around one of these wallets if you don't have to the
3:39 -best thing would be just to turn it off so that is the good news for you is you can turn it off with your ignition
3:47 -on go to home go to
3:53 -settings get a vehicle and scroll down to
4:03 -Locks and this key free just turn that
4:11 -off done so that's my best advice to you if you're a Tradesman turn that off turn that key free off and then you can lock
4:19 -the van with your remote control when you want it locked and by the way you should be double locking that van always just to make it a bit more secure when you when you lock it so that all them
4:28 -internal release CA and that are redundant and they're not working the only time you don't want to be double locking the remote control is if You'
4:35 -got someone in the van say you pulled up a petrol station and you're walking in the petrol station and you want to just lock your van you can press it the lock once but you don't want to press it
4:43 -twice cuz that would mean that that person is stuck inside the van and they won't be able to open the door from the inside if you press it twice so press it once if there's someone inside the rest
4:52 -of the time press it twice and now with that key free deactivated from the menu it doesn't matter with the key free I don't need to put in a wallet the van
5:00 -5 minuteswill not unlock unless I've actually pressed the unlock button on the remote control the other thing this rear bar door handle it doesn't physically pull
5:10 -open like it's not like a a physical door that opens like these side load doors you see these you know they're
5:17 -clearly open the same with the front doors clearly open the bandle is just an electric only
5:27 -handle so the handle itself is rigid doesn't open and in the back there if you feel your finger there's a little button there and you just press it and
5:35 -that activates the electric solenoids on the barn door there's two catches one at the top here and one at the bottom there
5:43 -and so that button from the outside which is the same sort of operation effectively as this escape
5:51 -button from the inside it's just popping the top and bottom latches so press the button pop the door open
6:00 -6 minutesopens the side load door That's the older style door where you pull the handle there'd be like a cable traveling
6:07 -through the door and it would have a latch mechanism at the back of the door there so that's like the similar to
6:17 -how the previous van was like an opening popping door so first thing I look at with the Vans really is first thing I kind of really want to know is do they
6:25 -open from the inside like does the van if I was to lock it if I was to lock it will these internal handles work or will
6:33 -they um be redundant and that's something that's really important and that's your factory dead locking and I'm going to press the lock
6:41 -button and then well I just press the lock button once so to demonstrate this for you with the lock button press once as far as to pull the internal release
6:50 -handle the door opens so that's normal lock what you need to be doing when you're locking the van for security purposes is double locking it which
6:57 -activates the factory dead locking so lock press the lock button again and now if I press that handle from the
7:05 -inside I'm pulling it and the hand and the door is not opening so I'm pulling the handle from the inside and it's not opening now so that's the factory dead
7:13 -Lock in there's another Point here for this which you as you can see now the alarm is actually going off in the van so this
7:21 -van they have put sensors in the load area what I'm going to do let me just first I'm going to unlock the van
7:31 -which to take the alarm off and also I'll open up the doors and get a bit of light here so up the top there there are
7:39 -ultrasonic sensors these are the ultrasonic sensors which would go in the cab of the van quite often most cars most Vans for years and years have had
7:46 -these ultrasonic type sensors which sense movement in the cab area of the van but lots of Van manufacturers have missed the whole point of Tradesmen
7:55 -keeping tools in the load area of their van and people attacking the load area of the van so for years they've been putting them on the in the
8:02 -cab in case someone was to break a window and like lean into the front of the van they've been putting them in there for years but they've been really missing the point in the load area so
8:11 -good to see that Ford have done that with this theyve put these ultronic sensors like we got in the cab in that load
8:19 -area next thing driver's door Barrel so this is a different type of driver's door Barrel on this one again you know
8:27 -we don't really don't know how secure these things are until a bit of time goes past you know time the thieves kind of have a go at it and we see like what
8:35 -the vulnerabilities are how much there exploited whether these are easy for thieves to unlock um is is something which we will figure out and whether
8:43 -it's necessary to like be having rep blocks in that fitted we don't know yet you know we will see when the time comes but what I can do is see how the
8:50 -manufacturer taken the software side of things like have they taken it seriously from a security point of view the Fords
8:57 -uh customs in 200 17 they were unlocking the load area from this driver's door Barrel if if you was to unlock your
9:06 -manual key and the driver's door Barrow back in 2017 it would unlock the load air of the van well that was happening in 2016 in
9:14 -2017 Ford kind of took it a step further where this actually was deactivating the alarm but they did learn from that in
9:21 -2018 the Customs had a software update a security software update which meant if anyone was to unlock the van from this
9:29 -driver's Barrel but the Evan had originally been locked from the remote control then it would not turn the alarm off and it would not unlock the load
9:36 -area so let's see now and what I'm going to do is I'm going to turn it into the unlock position more than once cuz to unlock the Barn Door of this you'd need
9:44 -to turn it more than once anyway so that's the locked position unlock unlock so I'm turning that many
9:52 -times unlock position we'll go around and check the load area and see is the door locked
10:00 -10 minutesseems like it that's good let's check the side load door yeah and the front door as well so the
10:09 -only lock door that should be unlocked was the one that was mechanically unlocked and that was the driver's door so if I check that we want we'll expect
10:17 -this to be unlocked now because this is your emergency get in this in case you got like a flat battery and your remote control doesn't work you want this to work in in any eventuality so driver's
10:26 -door should be open but we do also want the alarm to go off so let's check it can
10:32 -see okay good so driver's door unlocked just the driver's
10:40 -door turn the alarm off the alarm wasn't deactivated by that driver's door Barrel so that's good that's that is a sensible
10:48 -approach that that is very very useful another thing we had on previous models was these unlock
10:54 -buttons unlocking the load area so I'm going to put them to the test I'm double locking the van and now I'm going
11:03 -to wait for longer than a minute and then I'm going to check them buttons and just see do they unlock the van do they unlock the passenger door over the front
11:11 -would they unlock the load area of this van because if they do and the vehicle was locked by the remote control then that's a problem for did have the
11:18 -problem with that happening and again that 2018 software update they address that on their customers from then onward
11:25 -so um I would presume lessons have been learned from that and their security is also um continuing for this new model
11:33 -custom that's going to function in the same way that if it was locked by the remote control and then you was to unlock it with the manual key I would
11:40 -not expect those buttons to work so let's try it again unlocked it many times I didn't
11:50 -hear anything unlocked from the bar doors they should still be locked so let's go for it I'm going to expect the alarm to go off I'm going to press them unlock buttons and then see see is the
11:59 -load area unlocked or not and there's a there's a message
12:08 -there on the dashboard switches inhibited security mode okay so that's good that's done as
12:17 -well with regard to the alarm as you turn the ignition off it um comes up on dashboard alarm system full guard or
12:25 -reduceed guard so with the full guard active it would include that the interior sensors inside the cab of the van and in the load area of the van if
12:34 -you was to go to reduce guard by pressing the down button here and select an okay then the cab won't be protected in here if anyone want to break a window
12:42 -and lean in the front to remove content and it won't be um active in the load compartment the movement sensor if someone was to cut a hole for the roof
12:49 -or climb into your van to set the alarm off but it still would be active around the perimeter if someone was to actually open up a door then the alarm will go off but you could have a party inside
12:58 -the band as much as you and the alarm won't go off so that's for those situations where you want to get some protection but it's just not
13:05 -practical to have the full protection so how it differs from the previous model van from a security point of view is it does have these sensors ultrasonic
13:13 -sensors in the cargo area of the van which wasn't on the previous model um the doors are different the back door having this top and bottom latch and
13:22 -also having it electronically controlled that is different so there's really no reason for thieves to be making the same kind of hole in the back near the handle
13:31 -like they have been on the old model van but I'm sure that some f will be getting confused and making holes in the door um in that position anyway even though it's
13:40 -not going to do any good so I expect we probably do need to develop a shield just to cover up holes of repair shield for that area just so that confused
13:48 -thieves um the damage that they cause we can help you to put that right you know give you a repair solution for that I have looked inside the doors of this van
13:56 -there are improvements in terms of the latch and in terms of the security that's on there but we'll just have to wait and see what happens so what we at
14:04 -sussex installations will be doing is we will be basically trying to do two things we'll try and put some extra security um measures in place we'll try
14:11 -and make products available for you which can be more secure than what it is as standard although there are improvements from from the previous models and also we'll be trying and
14:20 -react in real time to give you repair solutions for when thieves do make holes in the Vans when they do break into the vans that you can repair your van with a
14:28 -a repair Shield rather than being stuck um needing a body shop repair which will be expensive and seeing your van off the
14:35 -road for perhaps like days or weeks at a time you know one thing I did find was I did phone Ford to ask them for a price
14:43 -for the actual latch mechanism for inside the door I thought I might just order one just have one on the shelf and one thing that was a bit worrying was that they told me that the part's not
14:51 -even available yet that they can see that there's a part and a part number for it but there's no price there's no facility for them to order that that
14:58 -part and no expect date so like that that's probably is going to be a problem um Vans getting attacked and latch is getting damaged whether they get into
15:06 -the van or not and the latch is not being available so that is a bit of a concern but we'll just work with it as time goes on you know we'll we'll see what happens you guys will come back to
