Jeff Scott's retrospective context — 2026

This is one of the earliest catalytic converter protection videos I made, well before catalytic converter theft became the widely reported problem it is today. The ArmaCat itself is a simple, mechanical idea: a strap bolted tightly around the converter using shear bolts, which snap the bolt heads off once they are done up to the correct torque, so there is nothing left for a thief to grip and undo.

Once they're bolted up tight, they break off and they can't be undone.

That single detail — that the fixing genuinely cannot be removed with a spanner or socket once fitted — is what makes a shear-bolt guard worth fitting rather than a strap held on with ordinary bolts. It is a good example of a security product succeeding by removing an attacker's option entirely, rather than just making the job slower.

Original description

This video demonstrates an ArmaCat Catalytic being fitted to a Ford Transit and shows how effective the security system is when it comes to preventing Cat theft.

We fit catalytic coverter protectors in the Sussex, East Sussex, Eastbourne, Brighton, Crawley, Worthing, Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, St Leonards areas.

Armacat installation is available for nearly all model vans including Mercedes Sprinter - VW Crafter - Ford transit - Fiat ducato - Citreon Relay - Peugeot Boxer - Mercedes Vito.

Common questions

How does a shear-bolt catalytic converter guard actually stop theft?

The strap is bolted tightly around the converter using shear bolts. Once done up to the correct torque, the bolt heads snap off completely, leaving nothing for a thief to grip with a spanner or socket to undo it.

Which vans can an ArmaCat guard be fitted to?

Nearly all common panel van models, including the Mercedes Sprinter, VW Crafter, Ford Transit, Fiat Ducato, Citroën Relay, Peugeot Boxer and Mercedes Vito.

How do you check the guard is properly fitted after installation?

Start the vehicle and check for rattles to confirm the guard is secure before the shear bolts are broken off. Once you're satisfied it's properly seated, the shear bolts are done up until the heads snap off, which is what makes the fixing permanent.
